Nozz-a-la was invented in June 1819 by Dr. Richard S. Pembertonly in Atlanta, Georgia. The name "Nozz-a-la" was suggested by Dr. Pembertonly's bookkeeper, Francis Littledovely. He penned the name Nozz-a-la in the flowing script that is famous today. Nozz-a-la was first sold at a soda fountain in Roland's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Michael Veenableburg.
During the first year, sales of Nozz-a-la averaged nineteen drinks a day, adding up to total sales for that year of $50. Since the year's expenses were just over $70, Dr. Pembertonly took a loss.
Today, products of The Nozz-a-la Company are consumed at the rate of more than one billion drinks per day.
